Nihonbashi which can be directly translated to Japanese Bridge is a business and commercial district in Japan. Although not known to many, Nihonbashi is the geographical centre of Tokyo and provides great connectivity to key locations within and out of the prefecture. This article will showcase some of the best and recommended Serviced Apartments in the Nihonbashi area.
Why we recommend staying in Serviced Apartments?
Moving to Tokyo, one of your first concerns is probably regarding a place to live. One of the easiest ways to find one is probably by using a traditional hotel which tends to be often costly. We, therefore, propose the usage of a Serviced Apartments due to its more affordable prices with the other benefits summarized below;
- Fully equipped with furniture and daily electronic devices.
- No upfront cost of renting (Most Real Estate Agencies in Japan tend to charge initial costs before moving into an apartment).
- Often provide concierge services like hotels.
- Routine housekeeping services.
- All-inclusive rent (Utility and internet fees are all included in the rent)
- A Guarantor or a Rental Guarantor is not required.
Overall, Serviced Apartments are a smart and relatively cheaper way to live in Tokyo.
Characteristics of the Nihonbashi Area?
History, culture and commerce are some of the many words that are often used to describe the Nihonbashi area. With a past of being the capital of Japan, modern-day Nihonbashi still draws strong inspiration from the Edo period (1603-1868) allowing visitors to find some of the best kimono (A Japanese Traditional Garment), steel knives and local food stores. It is also a business district with major financial institutes such as the Bank of Tokyo and the Tokyo Stock Exchange laying its roots in the area.

Living in the Nihonbashi Area
As a foreigner, Nihonbashi is a very attractive area to live in mainly for two reasons;
Firstly, the Nihonbashi area is within a walking distance from Tokyo Central Station which is used by 450,000 people daily who are supported by approximately 4000 trains. Moreover, if you are considering to use the bullet trains, Tokyo station is also the main Shinkansen Terminal which makes your journey in and out of Tokyo much easier.
It is also a great location to learn and experience the Japanese culture first hand! Apart from being able to buy traditional items as mentioned previously, the area is filled with historical architecture. Some of my favourites include the famous Nihonhashi (A recreated stone bridge the area was named for) and the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi (The first departmental store in Japan).
The opportunity to expose oneself to the Japanese culture and the convenience from Tokyo Main station are some of the reasons that make Nihonbashi a great area to live in as a foreigner.

Galicia Nihonbashi Suitengu
One of the most highly sought out Serviced Apartments in the area – Galicia Nihonbashi Suitengu is a 25.4sqm, 1-bed room Serviced Apartment that accommodates up to 2 people. The popularity can be derived from the spacious room set up and the strategic location of the apartment (Accessible to 3 different train lines by walking).

CK Hachobori
South-East of Nihonbashi lies Hatchobori which is a famous place for historical sites and a wide range of gourmet choices. Located closely from the Hatchobori Station, CK Hachobori has recently just started operating as a Serviced Apartment.
This Serviced Apartment is widely praised due to it, being relatively larger (28sqm) than the average Serviced Apartments in Tokyo (25sqm). Moreover, the personal touch of this accommodation is the Ukio-e art on the wall which complements the simple white walls. My personal recommendation will be room 601 as it is slightly larger (33sqm) than the other counterparts while also having a balcony that easily fits two for a lazy day at home.
