What makes Novena a family-friendly neighbourhood?
By Kirsty Best, expat wife and mother living in Bishan, Singapore.
When looking for family-friendly neighbourhoods and activities in Singapore, Novena is highly recommended and it is very popular with both locals and expats. It has several shopping malls with kids tuition centres, retail shops and play areas. There are many luxurious condominiums so if you’re looking for an apartment for rent in Novena, it is a great place to live. It has a nice heartland atmosphere and you will never be at the playground alone.
It’s also a great place if you are looking for a short stay in Singapore with the necessary amenities and it is just 2 MRT stops away from town. You could even walk over if the weather is not too hot! Here are some malls to check out at Novena.
Velocity @ Novena Square
Just recently my family visited Velocity @ Novena Square to watch a show based on Jungle Book and they had a fantastic setup! Do keep an eye out for regular family activities at the mall. They now have a number of Christmas events/themes. For the upcoming happenings, check out their website.
Velocity is also the dedicated sports mall with around 20 sports shops under one roof! It also has a couple of grocery stores including Cold Storage.
United Square - The Kids Learning Mall
This is the ultimate mall for family fun, play and learning. You may send your kids to tuition classes such as music classes, languages, art, ballet, drama and speech. Christmas Pow Wow is the festive event this year with live shows featuring PAW Patrol and Peppa Pig. Kids fashion are aplenty too with shops such as Cotton On, Fox Kids and Baby, Gap Kids and Chicco. Food is always on the cards for my family after tuition classes or shopping. There is a great selection of bakeries, coffee shops, and restaurants serving Asian and western cuisine.
